He made his living by crafting string instruments for musicians at the well-known Loreta Church.

However it was the Edlingers that brought the house its greatest fame. This family also made its living by crafting musical instruments and their reknown reached far beyond the Czech lands. This family also erected the famous house sign recalling the violin makers who lived in the house. According to a certain legend, skeletons play the violins each time there is a full moon.
