In place of his father´s private chapel, Aron Mešullam Zalman Horowitz had a new synagogue built. He was one of the most renowned and wealthy members of the Jewish Town in Prague. The building was completed in 1535. It stood near the Old Jewish Cemetery and it was called the Pinkas School, it has exceptional late Gothic architecture already including some elements of Renaissance architecture. The building was constructed at the iron workshop of Benedikt Ried. In the beginning of the 17th century, a new wing was added to the synagogue,
which had a floor gallery for women that opened towards the main area through semicircular arcades. After the completion of the redevelopment of the Jewish Town at the end of the 19th century, the synagogue found itself under the street level of today's Široká Street. The synagogue houses a monument to the victims of the Holocaust. The walls feature the 77,297 handwritten names of Czech Jews killed during the World War II. A permanent exhibition shows drawings of children who were in the Terezín Concentration Camp.
