The Petřín Hill, on top of which stands a lookout tower conspicuously reminding the Parisian Eiffel Tower, has an elevation of 327 meters. Way back, there was a stone quarry here for sandstone and argillite. The stones were used for the construction of many of Prague historical buildings. Until the 14th century, the
Petřín Hill had gallows and it´s only after the building of the "Hungry Wall" at the time of Emperor Charles the Fourth that the gallows were transferred to the opposite Vítkov Hill. Today it is primarily a popular spot for leisure and romantic walks. You can reach the top of the Petřín Hill using the cable railway.
