This exceptional Romanesque rotunda from the 12th century is the oldest rotunda in Prague and was dedicated to St. Stephan. It is located on the site of the former settlement named Rybníčky. The rotunda was most likely built by the Benedictines, after which German knights took over its ownership and finally, it was passed to St. Agnes, the Czech wife of Přemysl
Otakar I. The rotunda was later given a Baroque knave and enlarged. It is named after St. Longin, supposedly a Roman soldier who participated in the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and later regretted his role. He repented and became a hermit. Charles IV brought his remains to Prague and then had the rotunda renamed after the saint and christened in his honor.
