Church of St. Spirit

Description

The Church of St. Spirit was built around the middle of the 14th century becoming part of the female Benedictine convent. The prosperous development was interrupted by the Hussite uprisings at the beginning of the following century. The church underwent other additional modifications in the 17th century, when it became a parish church. Nevertheless, the church preserved its Gothic

single-nave layout. The atypical supporting pillars are the most distinct details of the exteriors. Under Ferdinand the Second´s reign, the Jews had to attend Catholic sermons in this church because it was the closest to the Jewish Town. Their duty to pay the so-called Glöckelgeld was abolished in the year of 1785, which was a fee for ringing the bell against clouds and floods.
